To get you started on the right path, here are some of the most frequently asked questions that a limestone company gets on a regular basis. If you don’t see your question listed below, please don’t hesitate to call us to ask for answers!

Can Limestone Go In The Kitchen Or Bathroom?

Of course! European countries have used limestone for floors and countertops for centuries so there is no reason why you can’t have it too! In order to minimize stains, it is a good idea to put on the right stone sealer and reapply when needed. Limestone will etch if food acids contact the surface so it’s a good idea to use a cutting board in the kitchen and wet the counter down to dilute any acidic liquids. Wipe the area whenever you are done with it as well. Darker limestone will show etches more and you might want to test how they do before you buy them.

How Often Does Limestone Need to Be Sealed?

Every piece of limestone is different and some limestone will have to be resealed every year, while others can go for a few years between sealing jobs. Part of it depends on the limestone material and some depend on how much traffic you have in that area. In order to tell when your limestone needs to be sealed, do a simple water test. Apply a small amount of water to the surface and let it sit for 10 minutes. If the water seeps into the stone, you’ll need to re-seal it.

What Do I Need To Know Before Getting Limestone Installed?

Your limestone company will give you any details you need before installation day, but it is a good idea to have some details before you get started. Before grouting, for example, you will want to have the stones cleaned and apply the sealer. Once the stone is installed and grouted, you can reseal it. You may need two or more coats of the sealer before it is ready for daily use. You will also want to wipe up any spills that occur right away so they won’t stain. Oily liquids can still get through the sealant and can be harder to remove.
